I really got to hand it to Jennifer Echols; her books never fail to catch my interest. Like the other books I’ve read from her, Love Story was a definite page-turner. It’s a light romantic novel with a very nice plot that’ll leave you wanting to read more.
I do have to admit that compared to Forget You and Going Too Far, Love Story is on the mellow side.
There are several elements that I liked about this book. I particularly like the setting, which is finally not introduced in High School! Seriously, a lot of Young Adult books are commonly set in High School and it just makes me feel soooo old! LOL. I also like the “Battle of the Writers” kind of situation between Erin and Hunter. The side stories written within the book was a very nice touch as well.
I wasn’t really in love with the characters like I used to with Echols’ other books, but I didn’t hate them either. It was just bothersome to see them both beat around the bush when it’s so obvious they like each other. But I guess that’s the beauty of this book, you get to the characters actually develop into a relationship rather than the love-at-first-sight cliché.
The one thing I was disappointed about was the ending. It’s not really what I expected. I feel like there were a lot of unfinished businesses with Erin’s relationship with Hunter and most especially the feud between Erin and her grandmother. I get the Love Story bit in the end, but I just wanted things left settled already.
Even though Love Story isn’t a standout for me, I still enjoyed reading it and I remain a fan of Echols’ books. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for readers next.
