Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books That Were Totally Deceiving

Top Ten Books That Were Totally Deceiving

Hello fellow readers! I'm so happy to finally get a chance to participate in the Top Ten Tuesday meme again. So this week's topic is about book that you found deceiving, as posted on the Broke and the Bookish blog: "...those covers or titles that don't fit the books, a book that was totally different than its summary, or those books you thought were going to be fluff that turned out to be more serious, etc."

I divided my list to two categories, the ones I liked and the ones I didn't. Most of these are based on the idea I formed after seeing their covers. So here's my list. In no particular order.
DECEIVING YET GRATIFYING

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. Beautiful cover… that regrettably doesn’t have anything to do with the story.

Need by Carrie Jones. Looking at it makes me think of it’s a book about vampires… it’s not.

Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston. A book with a cover of a girl that looked almost like she’s floating on water and the sort-of-aquatic-like typography made it seem like a mermaid book… turns out it was actually about faeries.

The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore. Okay, not really much on the cover art but more on the title; I thought of several theories on why it was entitled so but none of them were right. And the story really didn’t deliver whatever message the title was for.

Elixir by Hilary Duff. I read this out of curiosity, thankfully it turned out better than I thought it would be… but what’s the relevance of the flower???

DECEPTION AND MALEVOLENCE

Dark Divine by Bree Despain. Does that cover scream werewolves to you? No? Yeah, I thought so too.

Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. The Caster Chronicles’ book covers have always been eerily captivating. I like the first book, adored the second, so I just had to read the third. The verdict? Let’s just say I’d be crossing out the “Beautiful” word on the title and leave out the “Chaos” because that pretty much sums up what I feel about the book.

The Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney. Eye-catching cover… poor execution

Tempest Rising by Tracy Deebs I know I’m not the only one captivated by this cover… Tempest looks hot and what about that awesome tattoo? Too bad her character wasn’t as remarkable as the cover.

Fury by Elizabeth Miles. A cover of a girl who doesn’t seem to fit any of the characters in the book and a synopsis that made an even bigger dupe out of me. The idea of Karma and paying for your mistakes turned out to be presenting a bunch of morbid, heartless ethereal girls.

...And there you have it. How about you? what books did you find deceiving at some point? ^_^
