Filipino ReaderCon 2012: Filipino Fridays [4]

The Filipino ReaderCon is near! Take part in this awesome meme, just visit this link and let's all spread the word!

"Books and Friends. We will have book discussions hosted by several book clubs during the ReaderCon, so to prepare us for that, let’s talk about books and friendships and book clubs. Are you a part of a book club? If yes, what made you join one? What’s your favorite activity that you have with them? If you’re not a part of one, will you consider joining one? Why or why not?

Or if you’re not (yet) a part of a book club, do you have friends who share the same passion for books as you do? Do you have a “bookish” best friend? If yes, tell us about them! How did you become friends? What’s your favorite memory with them?"

Hello! Before I get on with this week’s topic, I wanted to give an update on our condition here. Things are finally getting better. Thankfully our house didn’t get flooded during the heavy rains incident (our garage got submerged but only shin deep so, no biggie) and today is “back to work” day. As I was on the way to the office, traffic was bad, it always is, but the problem today is finding another route to take since some of the areas and roads we need to travel are still flooded.

Many of our fellowmen have been struck by this incident badly, may we continue to reach out and help one another to get through this. God bless.

Book Clubs and Memberships
I joined the Goodreads community in late 2010 for the simple purpose of… well, finding books to read. After weeks just simply rifling around GR, I saw an invitation (I’m sorry I don’t remember who invited me) to join THE FILIPINO GROUP in my groups page. I was curious so I decided to join in. I’ve been a “somewhat” active member online since then (I want to join in on some of the discussions but I hardly have much to say. I am a shy person… really! lol).

Since TFG has been established for a few years already, they’ve been conducting meet ups every now and then for book discussions or simply just to hang out. I finally got to go to one of the many book discussions they organize, last June 2012. It was fun to meet the people who are part of the group, and even though I was a newbie, they sure know how to give a warm welcome!

Aside from TFG, I am also part of several groups on Goodreads such as the YOUNG ADULT BOOK CLUB, the WE ♥ YA BOOKS!, and the ADULT YA FICTION ADDICTION where I’m pretty much just a silent member.

Bookish Friends
When I was still in my school years, I didn’t have besties who were as bookish as me, or maybe I don’t think I ever really noticed that my friends liked reading as much as I did. It’s only now, seeing the Facebook accounts of my former classmates in high school and some college buddies that I found out some of them enjoyed reading books too. Mostly my bookish buddies are those that I met in TFG.  It’s so much fun to have people you can share your giddy-ness over a book with, and even get to swoon over a fictional character together.
