Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books I Read in 2012

Top Ten Books I Read in 2012
Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list  that bloggers are welcome to join in and answer.

Hi, everyone! Wow, did 2012 pass by in a blur?! I can't believe we're about to welcome a new year (unless the world does end on the 21st. :P) Anyway, I'm here to give thanks and honor the books (and its respective authors) that I believe stood out most from all the books I've read this year. This is the only time I am counting down my list chronologically from 10 to 1.

Without further ado, let's get to the list. Dim the lights... here we go... (see what I did there? LOL)

10. RENEGADE by J.A. SOUDERS - Nowadays, everyone loves dystopian and post-apocalyptic novels. And with a lot of books with the said theme popping up everywhere, there's a lot of pressure going on with debuting authors. Ms. Souders has done an amazing job in introducing the Elysium Chronicles with her first book, Renegade. I admire the execution of the storyline, and I love that it has the right mix of action, adventure, mystery and romance.

9. ANNA & THE FRENCH KISS by STEPHANIE PERKINS - I am not much into Contemporary, but with all the buzz that I keep seeing over this book, I had to let my curiosity win over. And I am so glad I did! It's not exactly the ground breaking kind of story (I'm always up for blood and action) but it was a really delightful book to read.

8.  INTERIM GODDESS OF LOVE by MINA V. ESGUERRA - Mina Esguerra is a Filipino author. And I have been a fan of her books since I read My Imaginary Ex. This is probably my favorite among her books. It's simple and cute, and has that mix of a fantasy element, which of course what I always love in a book.

7. STEALING PARKER by MIRANDA KENNEALLY - This is probably the most relatable contemporary novel that I've read ever. It really changed the way I looked at Miranda Kenneally's writing. You can check out my review of Stealing Parker to get into the details.

6. THE IMMORTAL RULES by JULIE KAGAWA - I swore off vampire books after reading the Twilight Saga and saw all sorts of other vampire books popping up everywhere after that (it got old pretty quickly), but since I oh-so-love Julie Kagawa, when I found out about her vampire series, well I had to make an exemption. Thank goodness, Julie did not let me down!

5. GRAVE MERCY by ROBIN LAFEVERS - Grave Mercy seriously changed the way I looked at Historical Fiction, especially those that concern politics, monarchy and the like. It's always too much talk, scheming and distrusting that gets me too frustrated to read on. But this... wow! I want more. And the Ismae-Gavriel moments were priceless.

4. THRONE OF GLASS by SARAH J. MAAS - What I love most about Throne of Glass is Celaena. The common elements of a female protag is the meek, sweet, and doesn't-know-she's-pretty kind, but not Celaena. She has the characteristics of a villain (arrogant, impatient, and sometimes a bitch) but has a heart of a heroine which makes her all the more lovable to me. I like the change.

3. ALICE IN ZOMBIELAND by GENA SHOWALTER - Color me surprise for loving a zombie book! Honestly, I don't really dig anything involving zombies. Even Resident Evil gives me the creeps. But the hell with getting creeped-out... this was so worth the effort of stepping out of my comfort zone.

2. CINDER by MARISSA MEYER - Steampunk and I have not gotten into a deeper relationship this year. I've only read about 2 or maybe 3 book from this genre and they weren't really captivating. But Cinder just wowed me! Not to mention that I really love retellings so yeah, bonus!

1. STORMDANCER by JAY KRISTOFF - And my number one pick from all my 2012 reads is Jay Kristoff's Stormdancer. This book has got me speechless when I finished it. I was in a whirlwind of emotions after. At first I thought it was one of those books that I wouldn't like but then Buruu comes along and I was having the time of my life! Everything about this book was just amazing!!!

So there you have it. If you ask me about what would be my book recommendations for this year, well you have it right there. I hope you enjoyed, enjoy, or will enjoy these books just as much as I did.

Happy reading! This would be my last Top Ten post for this year. Until next time! :)
