I'll be quoting my own reviews here. They pretty much sum up how I feel about these sequels. :)

EONA by Alison Goodman
Definitely better than the first book, albeit heftier.

"Alison Goodman’s world building skills were truly commendable. The action scenes were awesome as well and her writing, although long and descriptive in a way, was beautiful all the same. I have to say this was a very fitting ending to this duology. It was a little sad at some point but just like how Eona and Kygo had felt, I agree that their decision was the right thing to do even with all the sacrifices that had to be made." - from my review of Eona

Rating:

I gotta say this was a hefty book to read. Before I started Eona, looking at the number pages, I was wishing it would not drag because I had the growing feeling that I might not be able to finish it if so. I really liked Eon so I would hate to miss out the ending of this story.

Book Haul [2]

I haven't thought of a name for a weekly meme of book hauls so let's just go with what's posted above. 

For now, I'll call this the "Whatever it's called" Book Haul. It's only temporary, I swear. I just haven't thought of a clever name for it. So this is pretty much just like In My Mailbox by the Story Siren and This Week In Books by Pop Culture Junkie and all the other titles with the similar concept here and there. This is a weekly post showcasing the books you received for the given week, either bought online or from a physical bookstore, borrowed from the library or from a friend, received for review or won from a giveaway, etc.

Before we go any further, let me give a shout out to my mom, my grandmother, my relatives who are now moms, friends and colleagues who are also moms, fellow bloggers who are moms as well and to your moms too, and all the moms around the globe: HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!! Nothing can compare to the unconditional love you give to your children and for that you deserve only the best not just for today but everyday! 

Okay, here we are again for another post of what books we got for this wonderful week and I am on the state of needing an intervention (I think a lot of us do).

1. Bloodrose by Andrea Cremer

     - I can't wait to see how the Nightshade series ends!

2. Midnight in Austenland by Shannon Hale

     - I loved the first book, Austenland; and I love Shannon Hale so, yeah I can't wait to get to read this.

3. Stolen Nights by Rebecca Maizel

     - I felt sad about how Infinite Days ended so I really want to see how it would continue with this second installment.

4. Eona by Alison Goodman

     - I devoured Eon so of course I'm eager to read Eona. I'm just waiting for the paperback to be released since I bought the paperback copy of Eon. I want my books to match.

5. Fever by Lauren DeStefano

     - I'm eager to see the continuation of Rhine's story.

6. Wings of the Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton

     - Not loving the cover but I totally dig this series.

7. Hallowed by Cynthia Hand

     - Major cliff-hanger on Unearthly! I badly want to know the answers to all the questions piled in at the ending of the first book.

8. Truth by Julia Karr

     - Now that Nina's marked with the XVI tattoo, she's in for more challenges than she has already faced. Can't wait for that!

9. Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

     - Something tells me I'm in for more adventure.

10. The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

     - Yes, this has been on my previous top ten but I really am eager to read this. I get so giddy thinking about it!

Ratings:

An incredible fantasy book! What an adventure! 

This book tackled on a lot of issues that are commonly talked about in our everyday lives: politics, greed, prejudices, and survival. I love how Goodman has created a world that, despite being solely made for the book itself, we could relate to with the problems we have in real life. 

I also like the Asian atmosphere of the setting and the descriptions of the places were so vivid that I wanted to experience seeing it in the flesh. Although, I will admit that there are terms in this book that I didn’t know and I found myself flipping a dictionary to find its meaning. 

Eon or Eona, the protagonist, is kind of annoying. There are times that she seems to be very smart and yet there are moments that she doesn’t have a clue on what to do when it’s obviously easy to be done. I guess there are valid conclusions to her ability, or at this instance, inability to comprehend the matter. She’s been through tough times so I guess I couldn’t blame her since she’s probably jaded. 

Most of the chapters may be a bit of a drag to others because it’s mostly focused on Eon’s life in the palace and learning her role as a Dragoneye, but I didn’t feel the boredom because each chapter gave me something new to look forward to. There are parts that seem to give you a piece of a puzzle that you’ll hope to get another with the next chapter to come, so I really enjoyed that Goodman didn’t leave me hanging on for so long just to find everything pouring out at one final chapter. 

I do wish to have seen a bit more romance to Eon’s life but overall I find this as a really exhilarating experience and I strongly recommend this book to fantasy-loving bookworms out there. 

May I also say that with how this book ended I’m really looking forward to the sequel!
