ReaderCon 2012: Filipino Fridays [1]

The Filipino ReaderCon is near! Take part in this awesome meme, just visit this link and let's all spread the word!

"Introductions. As with every start of a weekly meme, we need to know a bit about you! Talk about your top 3-5 (or more!) favorite books of all time, the genres you read and would never read, the books that surprised you this year. You can also talk about how you became a reader and why you love it so much! And finally, if you were in the ReaderCon last year, talk about your experience too! If you weren’t there, but you’re planning to go this year, then what do you expect for the upcoming ReaderCon?"

Who I am and how I became a reader.
Hello! My name is Janus, and yes I am a girl [with a guy’s name]. I’m in my early twenties and I work as a 3D Graphics Artist in Makati. I guess the reason why I got into the profession was due to my love for video games (mostly RPG).

I am a Filipina who grew up in Riyadh, where my parents used to work for more or less 10 years of my life. I have been reading books ever since I was 6 years old. It all started with one Archie digest magazine. Since I was mostly indoors, my parents thought I might have wanted to get into a hobby. And ever since then I couldn’t stop myself from finding new reading materials.

My book genre.
I mostly read Young Adult books, a few in the Humor genre and now slowly stretching into Adult Urban Fantasy. Of course I still make room for some Archie and Peanuts comics and digest magazines now and then.

Although I lean into those books, I am open to reading books outside my comfort zone as long as it doesn’t scare the heck out of me. I guess you won’t be catching me reading any Horror books. I’m a teeny bit of a scaredy-cat… okay, maybe a lot, so Horror? No, thank you.

Why I love to read.
I love reading because it always gives me that sense of peace and serenity, and at the same time I feel like one of those Hollywood celebrities starring in their own film. You know, the feeling that you get to play a heroine or even sometimes a villain [if you want], and all you have to do is open a book and let your imagination fly. Ha! Ha! Ha!

ReaderCon 2011 and 2012.
I wasn’t able to attend the Filipino ReaderCon last year *sob* because I was a little short on time that day. I heard it was a lot of fun so if my schedule permits it, I would definitely go to this year’s event. I’m looking forward to meeting book bloggers and some local authors. This event would really be a great way to showcase our very own writers and to help promote and encourage more people to get into the reading habit.
