Upcoming Mid-2013 Book Events in Manila!

Hello there! It's the 4th of July! So while the US is celebrating Independence Day, here in the Philippines we are celebrating Phil-American Friendship Day! Warm greetings to all! :D

Now, you see that title above? Each year I grow even more obsessed with books, so yeah, I for one love to attend book events. So here are some of the events I will, hopefully, get to attend:

Hello there!
Nice of you to drop by the BLAIR BOOK PROJECT blog. Yesterday, August 18, 2012, I attended a wonderful event at the Filipinas Heritage Library: THE 2ND FILIPINO READERCON!!!

Cool, huh? It was exciting for me because it's the first time for me to attend such an event. Last year (ReaderCon was held along with the Manila International Book Fair), I just went straight for the book fair downstairs and since I'm a little bit of a Cinderella (I try to cram all my to-do things in one day) I dashed off after a few hours.

Favorite Books in 2012… so far.

When it comes to books, I feel that “favorite” is such a strong word, it’s seriously hard to pick from them. For some reason, I feel that I love the books I’ve read in different ways, so comparing each one hardly seems fair. I feel like a mom choosing which among her children her favorite is, and we know that’s not possible (most of the time). I also don’t want to hurt the feelings of my babies (books). LOL.  Anyway, I’ll just go with some of the books that I gave 5-star ratings to on Goodreads.

Hello! Before I get on with this week’s topic, I wanted to give an update on our condition here. Things are finally getting better. Thankfully our house didn’t get flooded during the heavy rains incident (our garage got submerged but only shin deep so, no biggie) and today is “back to work” day. As I was on the way to the office, traffic was bad, it always is, but the problem today is finding another route to take since some of the areas and roads we need to travel are still flooded. 

Many of our fellowmen have been struck by this incident badly, may we continue to reach out and help one another to get through this. God bless.

Where and how do you read?

 I read mostly at home, in my bedroom.

On my bed, I shift between positions: lying on my back or on my stomach then I lay sideways (shift between left and right side) when I get tired. When I get uncomfortable lying down, I sit on the bed, lean on the wall with a pillow on my back and my book resting on another pillow on my lap. Once I feel some part of me aching, I shift again. It’s a cycle. Ha, ha!

There are also times that I sit in front of my computer, the book either in my hands or on the desk (so make room, keyboard!).

My Reading History.

My reading habit started out of sheer boredom. Living abroad in a town where you don’t really get to go out (there’s really nowhere to go unless you knew how to drive or take a cab, which at the age of six, I can’t do either), you’ll eventually run out of things to do when you’re stuck at home after school. There are not enough cartoons to fill in the moment dullness strikes and quite frankly I don’t enjoy TV that much, my eyes easily feel dry and stingy after a few hours of watching.

It all began with a random trip to a bookstore. My mom was busy doing the grocery and to help pass the time while waiting for her, my dad thought my brother and I might want to look around. So my brother goes off to look at comic books, which being clueless about what to look for I followed him to that section. I spotted a small comic book with three unusual characters; one was a boy with orange hair, and two girls, a blond and a brunette. Well, hello, Archie!

Who I am and how I became a reader.

Hello! My name is Janus, and yes I am a girl [with a guy’s name]. I’m in my early twenties and I work as a 3D Graphics Artist in Makati. I guess the reason why I got into the profession was due to my love for video games (mostly RPG).

I am a Filipina who grew up in Riyadh, where my parents used to work for more or less 10 years of my life. I have been reading books ever since I was 6 years old. It all started with one Archie digest magazine. Since I was mostly indoors, my parents thought I might have wanted to get into a hobby. And ever since then I couldn’t stop myself from finding new reading materials.
