Top Ten Books When You Need Something Light & Fun
Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list  that bloggers are welcome to join in and answer.

Hello there!

You know when sometimes the usual things you love to read suddenly feels like you've had too much of them, so you want to try out something more simple and still get to have as much fun. Once in a while, a good light read is something needed to break away from the accustomed reading preferences.

Here's my list:

FORGIVE MY FINS Tera Lynn Childs
STEEL by Carrie Vaughn
RADIANT DARKNESS by Emily Whitman
HEIST SOCIETY by Ally Carter
OF POSEIDON by Anna Banks

Top Ten Tuesday REWIND: Top Ten Books To Have In Your Beach Bag

Top Ten Books To Have In Your Beach Bag
Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. Each week they post a new Top Ten list  that bloggers are welcome to join in and answer.

Hello there! It's a rewind edition for this week's Top Ten Tuesday, and since it's summer vacation here in the Philippines, also that I'm going on beach trips in the coming weekends (I'll be in Batangas on the 21st, then a 3-day vacation on the 28th in... Boracay! Woohoo!) I decided to go for the "top ten books to have in your beach bag" topic. It's very apt, isn't it?

I've been accustomed to reading so much dark, brooding stories over the past few days that I thought beach trips would also be a good time to go for light kind of stories, so here are some suggestions that might help you relax but also get your dose of good reads.

Book Haul [21]

My "Weekly Book Haul" is pretty much just like In My Mailbox by the Story Siren, This Week In Books by Pop Culture Junkie, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews and all the other titles with the similar concept here and there. This is a weekly post showcasing the books you received for the given week, either bought online or from a physical bookstore, borrowed from the library or from a friend, received for review or won from a giveaway, etc.

Hello! Happy hearts month! You know what I mean. LOL.

Anyway, it was my birthday last Sunday, January 27th and I just had a fabulous week in books and I can't wait to share them with you all. So here they are:

Book Haul [12]: MIBF Edition!

Hello, fellow readers! Here I am again, doing a weekly book haul here at the Blair Book Project on this beautiful Sunday morning.

This week's book haul is a special one since we have a very exciting event for all bookworms: the 33rd Manila International Book Fair!!! Woohoo!

I just went to the SMX Convention Center at SM Mall of Asia yesterday where MIBF was held at. So much was going on, there's books everywhere, and book signings, and some other crazy stuff. And of course there where a lot of people around. So forgive me for not having any pictures during the event, I always get overwhelmed with crowds, and I can't believe that because of it, I forgot to pull out my camera. Ugh! Bad me!

Heist Society by Ally Carter

Heist Society
(Heist Society #1)
by Ally Carter
Summary from Goodreads:

"When Katarina Bishop was three, her parents took her on a trip to the Louvre…to case it. For her seventh birthday, Katarina and her Uncle Eddie traveled to Austria…to steal the crown jewels. When Kat turned fifteen, she planned a con of her own—scamming her way into the best boarding school in the country, determined to leave the family business behind. Unfortunately, leaving “the life” for a normal life proves harder than she’d expected.

Soon, Kat's friend and former co-conspirator, Hale, appears out of nowhere to bring Kat back into the world she tried so hard to escape. But he has a good reason: a powerful mobster has been robbed of his priceless art collection and wants to retrieve it. Only a master thief could have pulled this job, and Kat's father isn't just on the suspect list, he is the list. Caught between Interpol and a far more deadly enemy, Kat’s dad needs her help.

For Kat, there is only one solution: track down the paintings and steal them back. So what if it's a spectacularly impossible job? She's got two weeks, a teenage crew, and hopefully just enough talent to pull off the biggest heist in her family's history--and, with any luck, steal her life back along the way."

Rating:

I read this book because I wanted a break from all the dark, brooding, thick books I’ve been reading for the past weeks. Since I noticed that this book had only less than 300 pages, and the premise seemed really interesting, I gave it a shot. Who would’ve thought I’d come to enjoy it so much!

Ally Carter has mad writing skills! A great plot, charming characters and well execution made this book a real standout for me.

I kind of want to see more of the characters in this book since I feel like I didn’t get a lot more time to get to know them better. For instance, Kat is a character that I want to get to know even more. She’s cunning and one of the best thieves around but I like that despite how well she is on this; she wants something more of a normal and lawful life. And yet she’s the type of person who cares about her family very much. Even with all that, I feel like there’s got to be more to her that I’d appreciate greatly.

I also want to see more of the Hale/Kat relationship. I hated that I didn’t see anything more than them just holding each other’s hands when it’s obvious there’s chemistry between them.

I don’t know much of paintings and the artists behind them but I like the fact that I learned something new from this book.

Heist Society was a really fun book to read. It was cute, light and engaging, not to mention witty! I also enjoyed the fact that Kat and the other thieves get to travel to and fro around the globe and I’d like to see more of what’s in store for Kat. I’m sure there are a lot more jet setting to go around, new plan-of-actions to come up with, and more priceless art to steal.

Ramblings #3: Falling Behind on Book Reviews

Ugh! I've been busy lately that I hadn't had the liberty to post... and write reviews of the books I've finished for the past few days. Hence the emptiness of my blog for this week. Poor blog. I may be up-to-date on my reading challenge but definitely falling back on the blog posts.

So to make up for it, I'm posting the books I've finished reading just recently and giving a little insight on what I felt about them just until I get the chance to write a full review of each.

Here goes:

Extraordinary by Nancy Werlin
- Really enjoyed Werlin's book Impossible so I gave this a try too. Sadly, as great and captivating the title of this book is, it didn't surpass the beauty of Impossible.

Eve by Anna Carey
-A surprisingly good book. I actually enjoyed it even with all the mixed reviews, I'm glad I gave it a shot.

The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
-A book outside my comfort zone that actually pleased me.

Heist Society by Ally Carter
-Cute, light and engaging! I really liked this one.

Well that's it for me. Four read books without reviews. It bothers me really. I don't even know why.

In My Mailbox [13]

In My Mailbox [13]
hosted by The Story Siren

I'm really trying to narrow down my TBR pile on my shelf so I'm controlling my urges to buy new books... but it's soooo hard! And so, to satisfy myself and to continue to finally finish all those books on my shelf, I tell myself to buy just ONE book! Just ONE each week.

So far I'm doing good. Yehey!

Here's what I got this week... and please excuse the furry creature with it. Meeco (my dog), climbed on the bed while I was taking a shot of my new book and started sniffing it, then decided to sit there. O well, I couldn't bring myself to shoo him away. He's so adorable! ^_^
